Dear Friend of Yale in Chicago:

One of the privileges of being a member of the Yale University community in Chicago – as an alum, a parent, a spouse, a friend or a present or former faculty member – is the number of ways in which you are invited to give back to Yale.  These invitations come in a variety of forms, asking you to consider a gift of money, time or talent.

Twice every year, the Yale Club of Chicago Foundation asks you to make a gift so that students requiring financial aid can attend Yale.  Believe me, based on the letters I receive on behalf of the Foundation from our recipients, your gifts matter.  The fact that the gift comes from their home town is especially meaningful.  “My hope is to finish well and be an individual who makes the Yale Club of Chicago proud of the support it provides to students…,” says one.  “By presenting me with the Yale Club of Chicago Scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden and inspired me to work even harder so that I can follow your example of giving back to the community in the future,” says another.

If you have given to the Yale Club of Chicago Foundation before, you have made it possible for one of the two Rhodes Scholars from Illinois to achieve that distinction.  You have also made it possible for another to work with her biology professor to write a new curriculum for her major.  She is spending this summer working at Central DuPage Hospital to help compile the largest radiation therapy database in the United States.  Another is spending her summer interning with the Chicago Lawyer’s Committee on Civil Rights.  These and many more of the 99 students we support are already giving back, to Chicago, to Yale, and to those of us who have made the gift of a Yale education attainable.

Thanks to the support we received last fall, we were able to provide an award of a little over $850 to each of the students we support, for a total of $85,000.  Please help us to raise our award to $1,000 to each of these deserving students by raising a total of $100,000.  If you have given before, please consider an additional or increased gift.  If you have never given, we need your help.  The support you provide is deeply appreciated, most of all by the students we send to New Haven on our behalf.

P. S.  Please remember that if you have an upcoming fall reunion, you may designate your Class Gift contribution as a gift to the Yale Club of Chicago Endowment.  We also ask you to let us know if you have an employee matching gift program where you work for which a gift to the Foundation would qualify.
